Job summary

Great Western Dining Service in Garden City, KS is hiring a Baker to prepare breads, pastries, cookies, and specialty items for our campus location at Garden City Community College. Early morning shifts, fast-paced environment, commitment to quality.

Candidates should have 1–2 years bakery experience, a HS diploma or equivalent, and knowledge of food safety/HACCP.

Qualifications

• One to two years as a baker or bakery background preferred.
• High school diploma or equivalent; formal culinary or baking training preferred.
• Knowledge of yeasts and other pre-ferments encouraged.
• Must be customer service oriented and enjoy working in a student-oriented environment.
• Must be dependable and reliable.
• The ability to make desserts from scratch.
• Experienced in production line baking or food processing.
• Must be knowledgeable about proper food handling and safety guidelines.
• Must be detail oriented with the ability to perform simple mathematical calculations and follow directions for equipment and recipe production.

Responsibilities

• Produce standard baked goods such as cakes, cookies, biscuits, muffins and various types of puddings.
• Assist in developing new recipes and menu items when applicable.
• Unload, clean and operate mixers.
• Maintains all daily production, sanitation sheets and applicable forms to ensure all procedures are met.
• Assist with cleaning the kitchen and maintaining a sanitary work area.
• Meet or exceed all established HACCP sanitation and safety standards.
• Work collaboratively with other kitchen or bakery staff to meet production deadlines.
• Other duties as required & assigned
