Job summary

GoTo is seeking a Backend Software Engineer to join the RTC team, building media servers for GoTo Meeting, GoTo Webinar, and GoTo Connect. You’ll design, develop, test and operate our session control backend using NodeJS/TypeScript, with opportunities to explore C++ and cloud-native tech.

You'll collaborate with engineers across Germany, Canada, and India in a distributed environment, applying DevOps and IaC practices, and owning features end-to-end.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or comparable technical field.
• 2–5 years of software engineering experience.
• Experience building NodeJS-based microservices using TypeScript in cloud environments (AWS).

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, test and operate the session control backend.
• Build services with NodeJS/TypeScript and explore other technologies like C++.

Your Day to Day

Join our passionate, experienced, and friendly team and help to build our media servers to support the GoTo product family with apps like GoTo Meeting, GoTo Webinar or GoTo Connect to run everywhere providing the best experiences for our customers. The RTC team builds NodeJS and C++ based services that form the media and session control backend that powers our real-time communication and collaboration products. You will be responsible for the design, development, test and operation of the service, collaborating with your peers within and outside of the team. As a Software Engineer you have already a bit of industry experience and will join a fast-growing team with opportunities to learn & experiment with modern technologies.

As a Backend Software Engineer you will be responsible for the design, development, test and operation of our session control backend, collaborating with your peers within and outside of the RTC team

• Building and developing services primarily using NodeJS and TypeScript, while remaining open to learning and working with additional technologies such as C++
• Working with container and cloud technologies including Kubernetes, Linux, and Docker
• Applying DevOps principles and infrastructure-as-code practices while taking shared ownership of feature delivery and service operations, including on-call responsibilities
• Using modern agile software craftsmanship principles to deliver features end-to-end
• Collaborating with engineering teams across Germany, Canada, and India in a distributed development environment

What We’re Looking For

As a Backend Software Engineer, your background will look like:

• A Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or a comparable technical field, and 2-5 years of working experience in software engineering
• Experience building NodeJS-based microservices using TypeScript in cloud environments such as AWS
• Strong understanding of distributed systems and hands-on experience with Linux, AWS, Kubernetes, Docker, and bash scripting
• Familiarity with networking and communication protocols such as HTTP, WebSockets, RTP, SIP, TCP/UDP, or WebRTC
• You bring strong communication and collaboration skills, a continuous learning mindset, and enjoy working as part of a supportive, agile team where curiosity, knowledge sharing, and openness to new ideas are valued
