Job summary

Bitovi is seeking a Backend / Platform Developer Consultant to design and run durable, distributed systems on AWS with Kubernetes, Kafka, and Temporal. You will own both code and infrastructure, working across JVM services, event streams, and platform engineering.

Qualifications

• Experience building enterprise-grade applications and owning both code and infrastructure.
• Strong Java/JVM background with Spring Boot or similar.
• Deep AWS experience—production systems on AWS.
• Experience with event streaming and data pipelines (Kafka).
• Experience designing GraphQL APIs and microservices.
• Knowledge of CI/CD and GitOps workflows.
• Experience with observability (logging/metrics/tracing).
• Migration and modernization of workloads across environments.

Responsibilities

• Build durable systems: design and implement Java services and Temporal workflows, Kafka pipelines.
• Lead modernization efforts: migrate workflows, services, and data across platforms with minimal downtime.
• Own the platform: operate Kubernetes-native infra and AWS CI/CD with reliability and observability.
• Consult with clients to deliver outcome-driven applications and platforms.
• Travel as part of the role (remote, full-time).
• Provide opportunities for training, talks, and community involvement.
