Job summary

Affirm is seeking a software engineer to design, build, and operate backend services. You will contribute to distributed systems using Python or Kotlin, and work with AWS, Kafka, Flink, and Kubernetes in a remote-first environment.

You’ll partner with product, design and analytics to scope features, break down tasks, and deliver in phases while maintaining high-quality, well-tested code and active participation in code reviews.

Qualifications

• 1.5+ years of software eng experience.
• Experience designing, developing and launching backend systems.
• Proficient in Python or Kotlin.
• Familiar with distributed systems components (AWS, Kafka, Flink, Kubernetes).
• Ability to break down problems and implement multi-component solutions.
• Comfort with navigating large code bases and performing code reviews.
• Strong verbal and written communication for global teams.
• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent practical experience.

Responsibilities

• Break down projects into tasks and deliver in phases.
• Collaborate with product management, design & analytics in ideation and constraints.
• Support operations and telemetry for team artifacts and on-call efforts.
