Job summary

BigCommerce, a Commerce brand, is seeking a Software Engineer II for the Storefront Services Team. The role is hybrid in Atlanta, GA with remote options, focusing on building and maintaining the storefront service that powers every BigCommerce storefront.

You will work with product managers to shape requirements, extend GraphQL queries, and evolve the service to support AI-driven shopping. Strong backend skills and production experience are essential.

Qualifications

• 3+ years of experience building backend services that run in production.
• Production experience with Scala or Kotlin preferred; others willing to learn Scala."
• Experience with GraphQL APIs and HTTP fundamentals including caching, cookies, and sessions.
• Familiarity with service-to-service communication and caching (gRPC, Redis).
• Experience debugging production issues using metrics, traces, and logs (Grafana, Prometheus, OpenTelemetry, Sentry).
• Familiarity with releasing changes safely through feature flags and gradual rollouts.
• Experience writing automated tests and working with CI/CD pipelines.
• Interest in how AI agents use APIs and reviewing AI-generated code.

Responsibilities

• Build and maintain features in the storefront service powering every BigCommerce storefront.
• Extend GraphQL Storefront API queries and fields while maintaining backward compatibility.
• Help evolve storefront service to support AI-driven shopping experiences.
• Investigate and fix production issues, improving performance and reliability.
• Review code from teammates and other teams, and participate in design reviews.
