Job summary

Catawiki is hiring a Backend Engineer in Lisbon. You will work in a small, autonomous Agile team, delivering scalable microservices across Demand, Supply, or Fulfilment. The stack is Ruby-focused, with opportunities to learn new technologies and impact a high-traffic marketplace.

We operate a hybrid model with two days per week in the Lisbon office, offering a competitive base salary, meal stipends, health insurance, and a WFH allowance to support your daily setup.

Qualifications

• 7+ years of software development experience with OO programming.
• 3+ years building customer-facing products in ecommerce/fintech/SaaS.
• Backend services design, implementation, and deployment with high availability and low latency.
• Strong API design, SQL, and relational databases knowledge.
• Clear English communication and teamwork.
• Collaborative mindset and initiative.
• Growth mindset and willingness to learn new technologies.

Responsibilities

• Build end-to-end by designing, developing, testing, deploying, maintaining, and improving scalable microservices and features.
• Own what you deliver, ensuring quality, resilience, and maintainability across services.
• Collaborate with product designers, owners, frontend, backend, and mobile engineers to deliver innovations.
• Improve engineering processes for greater efficiency.
• Document and advocate development best practices across the team.
• Raise product quality by fixing bugs and refactoring as needed.
• Learn and experiment during Technical Week and explore new technologies.
