Job summary

Discord is seeking a Software Engineer for Safety Engineering to design, build and operate backend infrastructure that scales to millions of users while enabling safer communities. You will work on production systems, participate in on-call rotations, and partner with Trust & Safety, ML, Policy and product teams to deliver effective safeguards.

The role requires 3+ years of backend software engineering experience (Python or similar), strong track record with distributed systems on AWS or GCP,

Qualifications

• 3+ years of professional software engineering experience focusing on backend services or infrastructure.
• Experience building and operating distributed systems at scale on AWS or GCP.
• Strong debugging skills and ability to navigate multi-service codebases.
• Excellent collaboration and communication with cross-functional partners.

Responsibilities

• Scale and improve Discord’s ability to review and detect harmful content on the platform.
• Build and maintain production systems that operate at massive scale, participating in on-call rotations.
• Apply an adversarial mindset to security, abuse scenarios, edge cases, and scalability concerns.
• Collaborate closely with Trust & Safety, ML, Policy, and product teams to understand requirements and deliver effective solutions.
