Job summary

Discord is seeking a Staff Software Engineer to join the Safety Processing team. You will lead backend systems for processing safety signals using Python, mentor engineers, and guide architecture to ensure scalable, trusted moderation at scale.

You will collaborate with cross-functional teams to build moderation tools, implement ML/AI improvements, and address adversarial safety challenges. This is a US-based role with flexible onsite/remote arrangements in LA/SF regions.

Qualifications

• Python backend systems design and maintenance experience.
• Strong system design and scalable architecture skills for content moderation.
• Experience leading cross-functional projects and mentoring engineers.
• Experience in trust, safety, security, or privacy with adversarial mindset.
• Experience in 24/7 on-call rotations for production systems.

Responsibilities

• Lead, design, and build scalable backend systems for processing safety signals, primarily using Python.
• Guide and mentor the team through architectural and system design challenges for long-term scalability.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to build moderation tools and related compliance solutions.
• Implement and enhance ML/AI models to improve moderation and decision-making processes.
• Address safety challenges with an adversarial mindset and pro-actively mitigate risks.
• Drive workstreams and lead engineers to deliver impactful outcomes.
