Job summary

Discord is seeking a Senior Engineer for the Safety Experience team in San Francisco to design, build, and scale backend APIs and data pipelines that protect millions of users while ensuring regulatory compliance. You will work with Product, Policy, Data Science, ML, Legal and Ops to craft safer, more lovable experiences across web and mobile platforms.

You will lead end-to-end delivery, troubleshoot live systems, and communicate with cross-functional partners.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of experience building backend APIs with Python frameworks (Flask/Django).
• 5+ years of frontend experience with JavaScript, React, and TypeScript for web/mobile.
• Experience with databases such as Postgres/Cassandra/ScyllaDB.
• Proven track record delivering large-scale safety-focused features end-to-end.
• Strong debugging, testing, and cross-functional collaboration skills.

Responsibilities

• Lead development of user-facing safety features at scale.
• Design, build and deploy production APIs, data pipelines and services.
• Collaborate with Product, Design, Policy, Data Science, ML, Legal and Ops to drive solutions.
• Improve internal tooling to accelerate safety workflows.
• Respond quickly to evolving abuse and regulatory landscapes.
