Job summary

Discord is seeking a Senior Software Engineer to own complex safety infrastructure from design through post-launch iteration. You will build and operate production services at scale and participate in on-call rotations.

Collaborate with Trust & Safety, ML, Policy, and product teams to deliver robust safety solutions while applying an adversarial mindset to security and abuse scenarios. This US-based role requires strong Python skills and distributed systems know-how.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of professional software engineering experience focused on backend services and/or infrastructure.
• Strong programming skills in Python; Rust and TypeScript experience is a plus.
• Experience building and operating distributed systems and production services at scale (GCP or AWS).
• Strong debugging skills and ability to navigate complex, multi-service codebases.
• Excellent collaboration and communication skills with cross-functional partners.
• Quality-centered mindset with attention to details at all stages of development.

Responsibilities

• Own safety infrastructure projects end-to-end from design through post-launch iteration.
• Build and maintain production systems at massive scale and participate in on-call rotations.
• Apply adversarial mindset to security, abuse scenarios, edge cases, and scalability.
• Collaborate with Trust & Safety, ML, Policy, and product teams on requirements.
• Break down large projects into prioritized work streams and manage dependencies.
• Contribute to design discussions, write RFCs, and mentor code reviews.
