Job summary

Discord is seeking a Software Engineer to help scale the safety infrastructure and content moderation systems. You will design and operate backend services at large scale, collaborating with Trust & Safety, ML, and product teams.

The role emphasizes security, reliability, and on-call ownership, with opportunities to contribute to open-source tooling like Osprey and drive safety initiatives across the platform. Base salary in the US ranges from $160,000 to $220,000 with equity and benefits.

Qualifications

• 3+ years of backend software engineering experience.
• Experience with distributed systems and production services at scale (GCP or AWS).
• Strong debugging, collaboration, and communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Scale and improve Discord's ability to review and detect harmful content on the platform.
• Build and maintain production systems that operate at massive scale and participate in on-call rotations.
• Apply an adversarial mindset to security, abuse scenarios, edge cases, and scalability concerns.
• Collaborate with Trust & Safety, ML, Policy, and product teams to understand requirements and deliver solutions.
