Job summary

United States Digital Space LLC is seeking a Backend Engineer to join the Repository Management team. You will build secure, scalable backend features using Ruby and GraphQL, turning complex policy and repo management needs into reliable systems that serve global customers.

You’ll collaborate across teams, contribute to data models and APIs, and apply AI agents where helpful while maintaining high standards of reliability and observability.

Qualifications

• Experience building backend web applications or APIs.
• Proficiency in Ruby and GraphQL or ability to learn.
• Understanding of relational databases, data modeling, caching, and backend performance practices.
• Experience writing backend unit and integration tests; familiarity with Git and code reviews.
• Experience using AI coding tools or agents and ability to review outputs.
• Clear written and spoken English; comfortable in remote/asynchronous work.

Responsibilities

• Develop secure, well-tested, performant features and improvements using Ruby and GraphQL.
• Address complex requirements and legacy constraints while maintaining system reliability.
• Contribute to backend services, APIs, data models, and business logic for repository management.
• Collaborate across functions and teams, asynchronously and synchronously, with domain experts.
• Use AI agents for well-scoped tasks and critically review their output.
• Write maintainable code following company standards and incorporate feedback from reviews.
• Improve observability, production health, and resiliency; participate in on-call duties.
• Share knowledge through code reviews and technical documentation.
