Job summary

United States Digital Space LLC is seeking a Backend Engineer to join the Agent Observability team. You will design, build, and maintain features enabling AI agents to interact with the software delivery lifecycle, across the monolith backend and AI gateway.

You will collaborate with product, UX, and AI specialists to deliver scalable backend solutions, implement APIs, and strengthen testing and observability in a distributed, async-friendly environment.

Qualifications

• Experience with Ruby on Rails including background jobs, APIs and data models.
• Proficiency in API design and backend architecture (REST/GraphQL).
• Familiarity with Python backends and Vue frontends is a plus.
• Experience with AI tooling and AI-powered backend features is advantageous.
• Strong SQL with PostgreSQL and data modeling skills.

Responsibilities

• Develop, ship, and maintain features for Agent Observability and interactions across backend systems.
• Collaborate with PM, UX, frontend, backend, and AI teams to refine requirements and drive product enhancements.
• Design, implement, and review REST and GraphQL APIs with scalable, maintainable contracts.
• Improve automated testing and quality assurance with frameworks like RSpec.
• Share standards and learnings to raise the bar for responsible AI integration.
• Participate in on-call rotations to troubleshoot production issues and improve observability.
