Job summary

Affirm is a remote-first company redefining how people pay over time. We are seeking a software engineer to develop backend systems, primarily using Python or Kotlin, at scale with AWS, MySQL, and Kubernetes.

You will break projects into tasks, collaborate with product, design and analytics, and own code from development through on-call support, with a focus on reliability and fast delivery.

Qualifications

• 1.5+ years of experience as a software engineer.
• Experience designing, developing and launching backend systems, proficient in Python or Kotlin.
• Familiar with distributed systems and technologies like AWS, MySQL and Kubernetes.
• Able to translate simple business scenarios into multi-component solutions with well-tested, extensible code.
• Comfortable navigating a large codebase and providing code reviews.

Responsibilities

• Break down large projects into tasks and deliver in phases.
• Collaborate with product management, design and analytics to align on constraints and trade-offs.
• Maintain operations and availability of team artifacts, monitor metrics, and support on-call efforts.
• Contribute to team community through growth and interview participation.
