Job summary

Fellow in San Francisco is seeking a Backend Engineer to design, develop, and maintain robust IoT backend services for our connected products.

You will own architecture simplification, real-time connectivity, data pipelines, and reliability, collaborating with teams across the US and Shenzhen to drive scalable, secure backend systems.

The role combines hands-on implementation with strategic direction to evolve our unified backend platform for kitchen devices worldwide.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent practical experience.
• 5+ years of backend engineering with TS/Node.js and Python.
• Experience with production IoT backend systems.
• Real-time and event-driven communication with WebSockets/REST.
• Hands-on AWS experience with ECS, Lambda, API Gateway, SQS, S3, RDS/PostgreSQL, and AWS IoT Core.

Responsibilities

• Design unified backend architecture for Fellow’s connected products.
• Pilot new connected products as production prototypes and scale patterns.
• Build reliable, low-latency real-time connectivity between devices, apps, and cloud services.
• Develop data collection and orchestration pipelines for analytics and ML.
• Improve observability, logging, metrics, and alerting for operational readiness.
