Job summary

CapTech Ventures is seeking a skilled Azure PostgreSQL DBA to join our technology consulting team. You will own health, performance, and security of client data platforms in a cloud-first environment, collaborating with engineers, architects, analysts, and stakeholders.

The role emphasizes hands-on management, automation, and design for resilience, with a strong focus on Azure SQL, Terraform, and CI/CD pipelines. On-call support may be required based on client engagements.

Qualifications

• Five or more years administering PostgreSQL in production environments.
• Hands-on experience with Azure Database for PostgreSQL Flexible Server.
• Strong SQL/PLpgSQL and PostgreSQL diagnostic tooling.

Responsibilities

• Administer PostgreSQL environments across development, test, and production.
• Own performance tuning, indexing, partitioning, and autovacuum management.
• Design and test high availability and disaster recovery configurations.
• Automate provisioning and configuration with Terraform or Bicep.
• Deliver schema changes via Azure Pipelines or GitHub Actions with Flyway/Liquibase.
• Implement database security, authentication, and encryption controls.
• Build observability with Azure Monitor and alerting thresholds.
• Manage capacity, cost, and provide scaling guidance to clients.
• Collaborate with application engineers on data modeling and query design.
• Produce runbooks and transfer knowledge for client teams; participate in on-call rotations.
