Job summary

CapTech is seeking an Azure PostgreSQL Database Administrator to own the health, performance, and security of client data platforms. The role blends hands-on engineering with consulting, requiring automation, monitoring, and design of future-ready data estates.

You will administer PostgreSQL across dev/test/prod, tune performance, implement HA/DR, and automate provisioning using Terraform/Bicep with CI/CD pipelines. Collaboration with engineers and stakeholders is essential for success.

Qualifications

• Five or more years administering PostgreSQL in production (production incident management, tuning, backup/recovery).
• Two+ years in Microsoft Azure with Azure Database for PostgreSQL Flexible Server.
• Strong SQL/PL/pgSQL with EXPLAIN ANALYZE and diagnostic tooling.
• Experience with Infrastructure as Code (Terraform, Bicep, ARM) and CI/CD in Git-based workflows.
• Scripting in Python, Bash, or PowerShell for automation.

Responsibilities

• Administer PostgreSQL environments across development, test, and production (Azure PostgreSQL Flexible Server, Azure VMs, AKS).
• Own performance tuning, indexing/partitioning, autovacuum, and troubleshooting.
• Design high availability and DR configurations with read replicas and failover runbooks.
• Automate provisioning/config of DB infra with Terraform/Bicep; deploy schema changes via CI/CD (Flyway/Liquibase).
• Implement DB security/compliance: Entra ID, encryption, private endpoints, Key Vault rotation.
• Build observability with Azure Monitor/Log Analytics; define alerts.
• Manage capacity/cost and advise on reserved capacity and scaling.
• Collaborate with app engineers on data modeling, query design, and pooling (PgBouncer).
• Produce runbooks and transfer knowledge to client teams; participate in on-call rotation.
