Job summary

CapTech is seeking an Azure PostgreSQL Database Administrator to own production data platform health, performance, and security in a cloud-first consulting engagement. You will work with engineers, architects, analysts and client stakeholders to stabilize existing systems and design the next generation.

The role emphasizes automation, monitoring and robust DR/HA, with hands-on responsibilities across Terraform/Bicep automation, Azure Pipelines or GitHub Actions, and strong SQL/PLpgSQL expertise.

Qualifications

• Five or more years administering PostgreSQL in production, including tuning, upgrades, backup/recovery, replication and incident response.
• Two or more years in Microsoft Azure with hands-on Azure Database for PostgreSQL Flexible Server.
• Strong SQL and PL/pgSQL skills with EXPLAIN ANALYZE and PostgreSQL diagnostic toolkit.
• IaC and CI/CD pipelines using Terraform, Bicep/ARM templates with version control.
• Scripting proficiency in Python, Bash, or PowerShell for automation.
• Understanding of Azure networking, identity fundamentals, private endpoints and Key Vault.

Responsibilities

• Administer PostgreSQL environments across development, test and production including Azure Database for PostgreSQL Flexible Server.
• Own end-to-end performance tuning: indexing, partitioning, autovacuum, server parameters, and resolving bloat and contention.
• Design and test high availability, DR configurations with replicas, zone redundancy, PITR and documented runbooks.
• Automate provisioning and configuration using Terraform or Bicep; deploy schema changes via Azure Pipelines or GitHub Actions with Flyway or Liquibase.
• Implement database security controls including authentication, role design, row-level security, encryption, private endpoints and Key Vault rotation.
• Build observability with Azure Monitor, Log Analytics, Query Store and threshold-based alerts.
• Manage capacity and cost, advise on reserved capacity and scaling strategies.
• Collaborate with application engineers on data modeling, query design and connection pooling (PgBouncer).
• Produce runbooks, standards and transfer knowledge for client teams to operate post-engagement.
• Participate in on-call rotation for production support when required.
