Job summary

CapTech is seeking an Azure PostgreSQL Database Administrator to own data platform health, performance, and security for client engagements. The role is hands-on, cloud-first, and involves working with engineers, architects, analysts, and client stakeholders in a consulting setting.

You will optimize PostgreSQL environments on Azure and in self-managed setups, implement HA/DR, automate provisioning with IaC, ensure security, and build robust observability.

Qualifications

• Five or more years administering PostgreSQL in production, including tuning, upgrades, backup and recovery, replication, and incident response.
• Two or more years working in Microsoft Azure, with hands-on experience running Azure Database for PostgreSQL Flexible Server.
• Strong SQL and PL/pgSQL skills, with fluency in EXPLAIN ANALYZE and the PostgreSQL diagnostic toolkit.
• IaC and CI/CD experience using Terraform, Bicep, ARM templates, and Git-based version control.
• Proficiency in Python, Bash, or PowerShell for automation.

Responsibilities

• Administer PostgreSQL environments across development, test, and production, including Azure PostgreSQL Flexible Server and self-managed instances.
• Own performance tuning end to end: analyze execution plans, indexing, partitioning, autovacuum, and server parameters.
• Design and test high availability and disaster recovery configurations with read replicas and failover runbooks.
• Automate provisioning and configuration of database infrastructure using IaC and deliver schema changes through CI/CD pipelines.
• Build observability with Azure Monitor and Log Analytics, define alerting thresholds.
