Job summary

CapTech is seeking a PostgreSQL Database Administrator to own PostgreSQL environments across development, test, and production in a cloud-first consulting capacity. You will optimize performance, design HA/DR, and automate infrastructure with IaC tools while collaborating with engineers and client stakeholders.

The role emphasizes hands-on database administration, incident ownership, and automation-driven improvements with a focus on Azure and security best practices.

Qualifications

• 5+ years administering PostgreSQL in production.
• 2+ years in Microsoft Azure with Azure Database for PostgreSQL Flexible Server.
• Strong SQL and PL/pgSQL skills with EXPLAIN ANALYZE.
• IaC: Terraform, Bicep, or ARM templates.
• Scripting in Python, Bash, or PowerShell.
• Understanding of Azure networking and identity fundamentals (VNet, Private Endpoints, Key Vault, Entra ID).
• Experience with Agile or Waterfall SDLC.
• Excellent written and verbal communication, client-facing.
• Consulting experience in regulated environments preferred.
• Azure certifications such as AZ-104 or AZ-305 are a plus.

Responsibilities

• Administer PostgreSQL environments across development, test, and production.
• Own performance tuning: execution plans, indexing, autovacuum, and server parameters.
• Design and test high availability and DR configurations with read replicas and failover runbooks.
• Automate provisioning with Terraform or Bicep and deploy schema changes via CI/CD (Azure Pipelines or GitHub Actions).
• Implement security controls: Entra ID authentication, encryption, private endpoints, Key Vault rotation.
• Build observability with Azure Monitor and Log Analytics, set alert thresholds.
• Collaborate with application engineers on data modeling and query design.
• Produce runbooks and knowledge transfer materials for client teams.
• Participate in on-call rotation for production support.
