Job summary

Howard University invites applications for a Cloud Engineer I to support a University Affiliated Research Center (UARC). The role designs, configures, and maintains a multi-tenant Azure environment, enabling nine-academic-institution collaboration while meeting FedRAMP, NIST 800-171, and CMMC requirements.

You will implement IaC with ARM/Bicep/Terraform, manage HPC clusters and containers (AKS), and optimize costs for government-funded projects.

Qualifications

• 3 years of hands-on Azure IaaS, PaaS, and SaaS experience.
• 3 years PowerShell, Bash, or Azure CLI.
• 3 years of Azure networking in a large-scale or multi-site organization.
• Demonstrated ability to design and manage cloud solutions in a complex, fast-paced environment.
• BS degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Information Systems, or related field.

Responsibilities

• Design, configure, and manage Azure IaaS, SaaS, and PaaS solutions for multi-tenant research workloads.
• Implement secure networking with firewalls, VNETs, subnets, VPNs, and ExpressRoute.
• Manage Azure Active Directory (Entra ID) for cross-institution access.
• Use IaC (ARM, Bicep, Terraform) to rapidly provision research environments.
• Configure HPC clusters, AKS containers, and serverless components for data analysis.
• Handle data storage (Azure Files, Blob Storage) and data warehousing.
• Monitor resources and optimize costs across grants and task orders.
• Develop PowerShell and Bash scripts for automation.
• Ensure cloud deployments comply with FedRAMP, NIST 800-171, and CMMC.
