Job summary

Appian is seeking an Area Vice President for the US Public Sector Customer Success Program Management Office in McLean, VA. This leader will establish governance, drive mission assurance, and enable growth through delivery excellence across federal, state, and local government portfolios.

The role requires deep public sector experience, executive communication, and a proven track record building high-performing PMOs in regulated environments.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree or higher in a related field.
• 15+ years of progressive experience in program management or delivery leadership within enterprise software or government contracting.
• Proven track record establishing and scaling PMOs with governance and portfolio management.
• Deep knowledge of U.S. public sector contracting and procurement processes.
• Expertise in forecasting, utilization, margin management, and resource allocation.
• Strong command of Agile methodologies in large-scale programs.
• Exceptional stakeholder management with executive audiences.
• Strong risk identification, issue resolution, and governance capabilities.

Responsibilities

• Architect and operationalize the PMO governance framework across US Public Sector engagements.
• Lead financial management and delivery performance optimization across the portfolio.
• Partner with executive stakeholders to align delivery capacity with pipeline growth.
• Execute risk and issue management protocols with early warning systems.
• Drive portfolio-level reporting and executive dashboards for strategic decisions.
• Champion Agile delivery and continuous improvement across government projects.
