Job summary

Farm Family is seeking a senior underwriting leader to direct the Commercial Lines underwriting department. You will guide strategy, manage daily operations, and mentor staff to meet financial targets and service levels.

The role requires extensive P&C underwriting experience, leadership capabilities, and travel as needed. A strong compensation package with bonus and benefits is offered in a 100% in-office setting.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree required.
• Minimum 10 years of P&C commercial underwriting experience.
• 5–10 years of progressive leadership and management experience.
• Proven experience leading underwriting teams, managing portfolio profitability, and developing underwriting strategy for commercial lines.
• Industry designations: CPCU, ARM, AFIS, or AINS.
• Excellent oral and written communication skills.
• Overnight travel required (25%).

Responsibilities

• Develop and execute underwriting strategies aligned with company goals.
• Monitor performance using financial and operational analyses including rate, reserve adequacy, and pricing profitability.
• Lead underwriting staff with focus on talent development and succession planning.
• Collaborate with Actuarial, AI, Data & Analytics, Claims, Risk Services, and Compliance.
• Maintain relationships with agents to gain market insight and opportunities.
• Ensure compliance with underwriting authority, audits, and catastrophe management.
• Oversee underwriting and referral guidelines and binding authority.
• Educate team on changes in guidelines and appetite.
• Analyze data, productivity, and loss trends to adjust workflow and strategy.
