Job summary

Blue Origin LLC is seeking an Avionics, Instruments and GNC Engineer II in the Greater Seattle area. You will design, test, calibrate and qualify sensors for rocket engine systems and lead instrumentation development from lab to vendor environments.

You will analyze data, troubleshoot anomalies, and document requirements while working with vendors and cross-functional teams to ensure safety and reliability in spaceflight applications.

Qualifications

  • BS/MS in Mechanical Engineering or Physics with electrical experience.
  • 2+ years’ experience designing, testing, calibrating sensors & instrumentation.
  • Knowledge of theory of operation of sensors for various measurements (pressure, temperature, displacement, force, acceleration).
  • Experience developing acceptance and qualification test plans with pressure controllers, environmental chambers, shock/vibration tables.
  • Experience with data anomaly review, sensor system troubleshooting, and root cause analysis in lab/test environments.
  • Execution of component qualification campaigns.
  • Excellent presentation skills.
  • Preferred: experience applying sensors/instrumentation to avionics systems.
  • Preferred: basic software development in LabView, C++, Java, Python.

Responsibilities

  • Provide instrumentation solutions for rocket engines and deliver qualified instrumentation that meets system engineering requirements.
  • Create sensor and instrumentation drawings, specifications and procedures.
  • Collaborate with sensor vendors to develop sensors for demanding engine environments.
  • Perform sensor acceptance testing in electronics and environmental labs, and oversee vendor test campaigns.
  • Troubleshoot/analyze sensor/instrumentation anomalies and identify root causes using fault tree and fishbone methods.
  • Document sensor requirements and specifications for new products.
