Job summary

Salem-Keizer Public Schools is seeking an AVID Tutor to support AVID students in small groups and individually, helping them develop college and career readiness skills. Qualifications

• AVID tutors should be excellent role models of motivated, organized, successful college students.
• They should be able to work in a supportive manner with secondary students and be advocates for students while being responsible to the teacher.

Responsibilities

• Conduct in-person tutorial sessions that emphasize collaborative learning and student-led discussion of notes and texts.
• Determine concepts to focus on from worksheets, notes, and discussions.
• Encourage active learning while guiding students to use strategies independently.
• Assist students in any subject area with AVID classroom resources and textbooks.
• Provide constructive feedback on student work, online or in-person.
• Support AVID scholars through care and connection in the classroom.
• Maintain a positive tone and atmosphere in the AVID classroom.
• Assist the AVID coordinator with tasks like contacting teachers, field trips, and parent communications.
• Communicate progress and concerns to the AVID coordinator/teacher.
• Set an example of personal excellence and high expectations for AVID students.
