Job summary

Salem-Keizer Public Schools is looking for AVID Tutors to support students in reaching college and career readiness goals. Tutors work with AVID students in small groups and individually, applying AVID methodologies to facilitate learning and improve outcomes.

Tutors will use Socratic questioning and collaborative strategies to help students develop critical thinking and collaboration skills, with training provided.

Qualifications

• AVID tutors should be excellent role models who are motivated, organized, and supportive.
• Able to understand the delicate position they occupy; advocates of students.
• Commitment to helping secondary students succeed.

Responsibilities

• Conduct in-person tutorial sessions that underscore collaborative learning.
• Determine concepts to focus from student worksheets and discussions.
• Guide students toward independent, active learning with strategies.
• Assist students in any subject area using AVID resources.
• Provide constructive feedback on student work.
• Communicate regularly with the AVID coordinator/teacher.
• Set an example of personal excellence and high expectations.
