Job summary

Salem-Keizer Public Schools is seeking AVID Tutors to support students in study groups and individually, using AVID methodologies to advance college and career readiness. Tutors guide learning, facilitate Socratic discussion, and help students take ownership of their learning.

Training is provided; interviews may be virtual, in-person, or via one-way video. Applicants are asked to supply references if no formal work history.

Qualifications

• Must be a motivated, organized college student who believes AVID helps peers succeed.
• Able to work with secondary students and advocate for their learning.
• Good communication skills and willingness to support collaborative learning.

Responsibilities

• Conduct in-person tutorial sessions that emphasize collaborative learning and peer teaching.
• Determine concepts to focus on from student worksheets and discussions.
• Guide students to own their active learning with supportive strategies.
• Assist students in any subject area using AVID resources and textbooks.
• Provide constructive feedback on student work, in person or online.
• Support AVID scholars through care and connection with the learning environment.
• Maintain a positive tone and atmosphere in the AVID classroom.
• Assist AVID coordinator with tasks like contacting teachers and organizing schedules.
• Communicate regularly with AVID coordinator/teacher about progress and concerns.
• Set an example of personal excellence and high expectations for students.
