Job summary

Sinclair Community College seeks a full-time, tenure-track Aviation Technology faculty member to join the Division of Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics starting Fall 2026. The role involves a heavy teaching load, committee service, and mentoring students across day/evening/weekend assignments.

The ideal candidate has a master’s degree in aviation or related field, five years of aviation experience, and relevant FAA certifications; A&P and UAS experience are preferred.

Qualifications

  • Minimum of five years of relevant aviation experience; management/educational experience preferred.
  • FAA certificates commensurate with relevant aviation experience; Instrument, Commercial, CFII, ATP preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and revise curriculum in collaboration with colleagues and ensure alignment with program goals.

Position Summary

The Sinclair Aviation Technology Department is seeking afull-time, tenure-track faculty member to join its Division of Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics, beginning Fall 2026. Sinclair Community College offers one of the most comprehensive Aviation Technology programs in the nation which includes Bachelor of Applied Science degrees in Aviation Technology/Professional Pilot and Unmanned Aerial Systems. Sinclair’s bachelor’s and associate degrees and technical certificate programs prepare graduates for careers as commercial fixed wing and helicopter pilots, aircraft mechanics, flight attendants, aircraft dispatchers, aviation managers and unmanned aerial systems operators and technicians. This tenure-track role typically requires at least a 40-hour workweek which includes a course load of 15 payload hours per semester, and a minimum of five office hours per week. In addition to the responsibilities, the faculty member will be expected to perform related duties including serving on department and college committees, serving as an ambassador for the program, and mentoring and coaching students. Teaching assignments may include day, evening, and/or weekend assignments. The position reports to the Chair/Program Administrator. All full-time faculty salaries are determined by the Provost’s Office and are commensurate with education and experience.

Principal Accountabilities

Satisfactory performance of the Four Critical Performance areas required for all full-time faculty:

  • Teaching, Learning, and Student Development :Participate in the continuing development and implementation of thedepartment’s curriculum through teaching that reflects a strongcommitment to fostering student success. Through in-class andout-of-class initiatives, actively seek to advance the developmentof individual students and their capacity to meet their educationalgoals.
  • Scholarship and Professional Growth : Maintain and seekto improve currency and competence in the discipline and as ateacher.
  • Curriculum Design, Assessment, and Evaluation : Incollaboration with colleagues, actively contribute to thecontinuous review and revision of the department’s curriculum. Mustexhibit advanced computer proficiency, alongside the capability andtime-management skills required for the effective development andrevision of online courses. Implement evaluations according toestablished standards and use assessment data to continuouslyimprove teaching and learning.
  • Workplace and Community Service : Contribute to theoperation and advancement of the college through committee serviceand other activities. Extend professional expertise to thecommunity served by the college.
  • Compliance with the terms and conditions set forth in theFull-Time Faculty Handbook and the Full-Time Employee Handbook
  • Teaching a minimum of 30 payload hours annually during theacademic year

Requirements
  • Minimum of a master’s degree in aviation or related fieldrequired; bachelor’s degree and significant industrial oreducational experience and related certifications may be acceptedinitially in lieu of a master’s degree
    • Candidates without a master’s degree will be required to obtainone within a specified time
  • Minimum of five (5) years of relevant aviation experiencerequired; experience in a managerial, technical, or instructionalposition related to the aviation industry preferred
  • FAA certificates commensurate with relevant aviationexperience
  • Minimum of a Private Pilot certificate required; Instrument,Commercial, Multi-engine, Certified Flight Instructor ( CFI ),Certified Flight Instructor Instrument ( CFII ) and AirlineTransport Pilot ( ATP ) preferred
  • An A & P license and experience with Unmanned AerialSystems preferred
  • Experience in a leadership and management role preferred
  • Experience in a technical or instructional position related tothe aviation industry preferred
  • Demonstrated commitment to improving student learning throughinnovative strategies shown to help students succeed at the courseand program level required
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills, with theability to work successfully in a community collegeenvironment
  • Flexible teaching availability, including day, evening, andweekend classes, at the Dayton, Centerville, and Mason campuses;Prison Education Program campuses; and local K‑12 schools offeringCCP courses, as applicable
