Job description

Starting Salary: $77,480/yr - $118,955/yr. The starting rate may vary based on factors including, but not limited to, education, training, and experience.

Job Overview

Manages all Aviation Section mechanics and oversees the maintenance of agency aircraft.

Minimum Requirements
  1. At least 18 years of age.
  2. Fluent in verbal and written English.
  3. U.S. Citizen or current permanent resident.
  4. Clean criminal record; arrests evaluated individually.
  5. No illegal drug use within the past year; other drug use evaluated case by case.
  6. Associate’s degree or equivalent plus 7 years related experience, or equivalent education and experience.
  7. Experience in fixed wing and helicopter maintenance; willingness to complete FAA-approved aviation classes within 6 months.
  8. FAA Airframe and Powerplant License and Inspection Authorization; must maintain certifications.
  9. Valid Florida driver’s license.
  10. Completion of agency Law Enforcement Vehicle Operations (LEVO) Training if required.
  11. Ability to assess aircraft airworthiness and perform routine safety inspections.
  12. Experience managing aircraft flight schedules, supervising maintenance, inspecting work, and overseeing budgets and inventory.
  13. Negotiation skills with vendors and contract vendors for repairs and supplies.
  14. Knowledge of environmental regulations and ability to ensure compliance.
  15. Advanced knowledge of aircraft repair and maintenance procedures.
  16. Supervisory and management skills.
  17. Mathematical skills including basic algebra and geometry.
  18. Strong problem-solving, data analysis, and interpretation skills.
  19. Basic computer skills: word processing, spreadsheets, databases.
  20. Ability to read technical and regulatory documents, and produce reports and presentations.
  21. Physical ability to perform inspections and maintenance, including lifting up to 25 pounds.
  22. Exposure to mechanical parts, fumes, chemicals, and loud environments.
  23. Management of aircraft mechanic personnel, including payroll, training, performance appraisals, and discipline.

Physical Demands

Regular talking, hearing, handling, reaching; occasional standing, walking, sitting, climbing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, tasting, smelling. Lifting up to 10 pounds regularly, 25 pounds frequently. Visual acuity for close, color, depth, and focus adjustments.

Work Environment

Similar physical demands as above. The work environment may include exposure to moving parts, fumes, chemicals, high places, electrical hazards, vibration, and loud noise.
