About This Position
Over 52 million passengers traveled through Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport in 2024, one of the busiest airports in the country in the nation's 5th largest city. Sky Harbor is the largest of three airports in the Phoenix Airport System (Phoenix Sky Harbor, Deer Valley, and Goodyear airports) which is operated by the City of Phoenix Aviation Department and has an economic impact over $44 billion annually.
The Aviation Dispatch Supervisor I will perform a variety of supervisory and technical assistance functions in support of the Airport Command Center, including overseeing the receiving, documenting, and relaying major communications for the Aviation Department on a shift. This is a 24-hour/7 day per week operation; nights, weekend, shift and holiday work are required.
Essential Functions Include
- Orders equipment and supplies.
- Manages escalated calls and resolves complaints.
- Supervises employees engaged in call-taking and aviation dispatch operations.
- Schedules, assigns, trains, and evaluates the work of assigned Aviation Dispatchers.
- Monitors critical systems and troubleshoots various technical applications and communication equipment.
- Assists in the creation and implementation of initial and recurrent training materials for Aviation Dispatchers.
- Demonstrates superior seamless customer service, integrity, and commitment to innovation, efficiency, and fiscally responsible activity.
- Reviews and maintains effective knowledge of the Airport Operations Manual, the Aviation Emergency Operations Center, (AEOC) and emergency procedures.
IDEAL CANDIDATE
- Knowledge of FAA Part 139 and TSA regulations.
- Knowledge of supervisory practices and personnel administration.
- Knowledge of the City's procedures, departmental Standard Operating Procedures, Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) safety and security regulations related to airside/landside activities.
- Ability to perform physical inventories of equipment and supplies.
- Ability to communicate orally in the English language with individuals in a face-to-face, one-on-one or group setting, or by telephone.
- Ability to observe, compare, or monitor data, objects, or people's behavior to determine compliance with prescribed operating or safety standards.
SALARY
Pay Range: $26.18 to $40.61 per hour.
Hiring Range: $26.18 to $35.08 per hour.

Minimum Qualifications
- Three years of recent, progressively responsible experience as an Aviation Dispatcher with proficiency in using radio systems, multi-line phones, automatic switchboards, paging, monitoring devices and other associated technology.
- Other combinations of experience and education which meet the minimum requirements may be substituted.
- Working conditions:
- You may be required to work irregular hours, second and/or third shifts, weekends, holidays, and evenings.

Preferred Qualifications
The minimum qualifications listed above, plus:
- One or more years of front line supervisory (or out of class) experience.
- Two or more years of public safety dispatch experience.
- Two or more years of experience in training new recruits.
- Two or more years of high-volume telephonic customer service experience.
- Two or more years of Aviation experience in operations, public safety, or emergency response.
- Post secondary education - associate or bachelor's degree, preferred.
