Job summary

Cook County State's Attorney Office invites applications for an entry-level Transcriptionist in the Administrative Services Bureau. This role focuses on typing detailed transcripts of electronically recorded evidence for the Assistant State’s Attorneys, with daily interactions across departments. Hours are typically Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m.

to 4:30 p.m., in the Transcription unit at 2650 S. California/Leighton Courthouse.

Qualifications

• Excellent grammatical skills in both oral and written English.
• Ability to communicate clearly both orally and in writing.
• Excellent organizational skills and the ability to multi-task.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Word; 50+ wpm preferred.
• Knowledge of Dictation is a plus.
• CRIMES and SharePoint knowledge preferred.
• Typing speed of 50+ wpm.

Responsibilities

• Transcribe interrogations from the Chicago Police Department and other law enforcement agencies, including body-worn camera footage using Start/Stop software.
• Provide accurate transcripts of victim and witness interviews.
• Transcribe dash cam, phone and surveillance footage.
• Maintain transcript files and documents.
• Provide typed transcripts of 911 calls, overhear conversations and parole board hearings.
• Interact regularly with CCSAO employees and handle confidential information.
• Perform other duties and special projects as assigned.

Primary Function: Type detailed transcripts of electronically recorded evidence for the Assistant State’s Attorney’s.

Working Environment :

Hours: Monday – Friday 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

Physical Requirements:

Light Work: The position requires the ability to sit, stand or walk frequently, often for extended periods. You may need to lift, carry, push, or pull objects weighing up to 20 pounds regularly, and occasionally heavier items. The job may also involve a significant amount of sitting or standing relative to sedentary roles.

Duties and Responsibilities :

• Transcribe interrogations from the Chicago Police Department and other law enforcement agencies, as well as transcribing body-worn camera footage and other electronically recorded video using Start/Stop sanction software


• Transcribe accurate transcriptions of victim and witness interviews


• Transcribe dash cam, phone and surveillance footage


• Maintain transcript files


• Provide typed transcripts of 911 calls, consensual overhear conversations and parole board hearings


• Interacts regularly with State’s Attorney’s Office employees


• Regular access to confidential information


• Perform other duties and special projects as assigned
