Job summary

Milwaukee Area Technical College (MATC) seeks an AV Technician to support and coordinate campus instructional media needs. You will work with staff and faculty on-campus and in distance education, recommending and installing current tools and technology.

The role involves maintaining the Faculty Resource Center, providing audiovisual and production services, and collaborating with partners to meet classroom and meeting room technology demands.

Qualifications

  • Associate’s degree in Graphics Technology or related field with two years of occupational experience in visual communications and/or media technologies.
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent with more than two years of occupational experience in visual communications and/or media technologies.
  • Experience with instructional media and campus AV environments.

Responsibilities

  • Manages and provides support for Faculty Resource Center’s computer stations and FRC copy center; maintains hardware and software supplies.
  • Prepares annual Instructional Technology budget for classroom, conference room and collaborative technology needs; works with vendors and internal staff to identify and implement specific site needs and system planning.
  • Provides technical support of collaborative technology communication such as two-way, multipoint video and future technologies; implements distance education connections with educational agencies.
  • Provides equipment, software and training support to faculty, staff and student workers to produce instructional materials.
  • Schedules, routes, maintains, purchases, and updates A/V equipment.

Under the leadership of Coordinator of Learning Services, the AVTechnician supports and coordinates campus services instructionalmedia needs. Assists staff and faculty (both on-campus and distanceeducation), by the recommendation and installation of current andnew instructional tools and technology. Maintains Faculty ResourceCenter, providing audio-visual services and production services formedia needs. Work is performed with considerable independentjudgment, creativity and ingenuity to analyze and to resolveproblems. Supervision received is general in nature usingestablished procedures and general objectives. Works closely withother professionals in a team approach. Communication is continuousbetween the division, industry partners, and vendors.

Characteristic Duties and Responsibilities
  • Manages and provides support for Faculty Resource Center’scomputer stations and FRC copy center; maintains hardware andsoftware supplies.
  • Prepares annual Instructional Technology budget for classroom,conference room and collaborative technology needs; works withvendors and internal staff to identify and implement specific siteneeds and system planning.
  • Provides technical support of collaborative technologycommunication such as two-way, multipoint video and futuretechnologies; implements distance education connections witheducational agencies.
  • Provides equipment, software and training support to faculty,staff and student workers to produce instructional materials.
  • Schedules, routes, maintains, purchases, and updates A/Vequipment.
  • Uses graphic techniques including desktop publishing,photography, and videography to assist faculty and staff withinstructional and department media needs.
  • Assists in specification, procurement, inspection, installationand start-up of new equipment.
  • Coordinates trade show booths, assists in recruitment andmarketing events; serves on various media design committees.
  • Collaborates with outside consultants and internal staff tocreate and organize activities for specific site needs, and systemplanning.
  • Attends in-service training, workshops and other educationalactivities as required or assigned.
  • Performs other related duties as required for the efficientoperations of the division.
Qualifications

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Compliance with all state, federal, and accreditationstandards/requirements, as well as all MATC policies andprocedures.

Required Education and experience: Associate’s degree inGraphics Technology or in a related field with two (2) years ofoccupational experience in visual communications and/or mediatechnologies.

Preferred Education: Bachelor’s degree or any equivalentexperience in related field with over two (2) years of occupationalexperience in visual communications and/or media technologies.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
  • Working knowledge of college supported computer operatingsystems, application software, and hardware.
  • Working knowledge of visual design and the techniques ofmultimedia presentation.
  • Working knowledge of the principles and processes involved inalternative delivery and video conferencing.
  • Skill in the operation and care of a variety of audiovisual andcomputer equipment and software.
  • Ability to communicate effectively through both oral andwritten means.
  • Ability to establish, collaborate and maintain effective workrelationships with peers, students, teachers, staff,representatives of outside agencies, educational institutions, andthe general public.
  • Ability to convey an image of professionalism and dedication inwork related activities.
  • Ability to work with culturally diverse student and employeepopulations.
  • Proficiency in the use of computers and software specific toposition, including spreadsheets and the Internet.
  • Ability to work successfully with minimal supervision and toprovide a leadership role to others.
  • Ability to establish workflows, manages multiple projects, andmeets necessary deadlines.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
  • Ability to lift up to 25 lbs., carry, and push up to 20 lbs.and ability pull up to 50 lbs.
  • Ability to climb stairs and a ladder and maintainbalance.
  • Ability to stoop, kneel, crouch, reach, hear and speak.
  • Sitting/Standing/Walking: 50% of time spent sitting, 25% oftime standing, and 25% of time walking.
Supplemental Information

Start Date: This position supports the InformationTechnology Department and is available starting in May 2026.

Hours: This position is a part-time position working no morethan 19 hours per week. Hours are second shift, Monday throughThursday. This position is based out of the Mequon MATCCampus.

Salary

Salary is listed to the midpoint of the salary range and is basedon the 2025/2026 rates and are determined by years of experiencecredit and internal salary equity.
