Job summary

Milwaukee Area Technical College seeks an AV/Distance Education Technician to set up, troubleshoot, and maintain alternative delivery systems across MATC’s campuses. The role supports instructors, installs and tests equipment, and ensures smooth delivery of classes and events.

You will work with video, audio, teleconferencing, and related devices, providing hands-on service and technical guidance to staff. Flexibility to cover courses and college events is required.

Qualifications

• 60 approved college credits in an appropriate field are required.
• Associate's Degree in Electronics, Telecommunications, Computer Science or related area preferred.
• One year experience in setup, maintenance and operation of audio, visual and alternative delivery technology desirable.

Responsibilities

• Set up and ensure proper functioning of alternative delivery equipment at sites before classes and events.
• Professionally respond to routine technical questions about the equipment.
• Install, maintain, troubleshoot and replace alternative delivery equipment as assigned.
• Operate or assist in operating alternative delivery technology during events and meetings.
• Support instructors by distributing learning materials and monitoring tests.
• Set up and breakdown portable systems and relocate as needed.
• Power down technology after service needs.
• Respond promptly to technical problems with alternative delivery systems.
• Provide technical consultation to MATC faculty and staff on system capabilities and functions.
• Operate audio/visual equipment including recorders, video switchers, satellite receivers, computers, and character generators.
• Assist in specification, procurement, inspection, installation and start-up of new equipment.
• Demonstrate equipment startup and operation as required.
• Perform other related duties as required.

Job description

Under the general supervision of the Coordinator - Alternative Delivery Systems, this position is responsible for setting up, operating, troubleshooting, repairing, and maintaining equipment associated with alternative delivery systems at Milwaukee Area Technical College. This equipment includes, but is not limited to, video systems, audio systems, teleconferencing, computers, cameras, fax, telephone, VCR, and laserdisc players and related equipment. The assigned location will vary among the four MATC campus locations, the Riverworks Center, and the Milwaukee Enterprise Centers. Other remote distance education receive sites associated with the College may also be included. The assigned hours will require flexibility to provide coverage during course offerings and other College events. Supervision is general in nature; standard practices enable the employee to perform independently, referring unusual situations to the supervisor for decision or advice.

Characteristic Duties and Responsibilities

1. Setup and ensure proper functioning of alternative delivery equipment at send/receive sites prior to classes, meetings and other MATC events.
2. Professionally respond to user routine technical questions about the alternative delivery systems and equipment.
3. In conjunction with the Technical Coordinator-Alternative Delivery Systems, install, maintain, troubleshoot and replace alternative delivery equipment and other technology as assigned.
4. Operates/Assist in the operation of alternative delivery technology during meetings and other assigned events.
5. Provide support for instructors by distributing learning materials and monitoring tests.
6. Setup and breakdown alternative delivery systems that are portable. Relocate these systems to areas of need.
7. Appropriately power-down technology at conclusion of service needs.
8. Respond promptly to alternative delivery technical problems.
9. In conjunction with the Coordinator of Distance Education and the Technical Coordinator-Alternative Delivery Systems, serve as technical consultant to MATC faculty and staff relative to alternative delivery systems capabilities and function.
10. Operate a variety of equipment including audioamps and recorders, video switchers, video recorders, satellite receiver and tracking systems, computers and character generator equipment.
11. Assist in the specification, procurement, inspection, installation and start-up of new equipment as assigned.
12. Demonstrate equipment startup and operation as required.
13. Performs other related duties as required or assigned.

Qualifications

1. Requires 60 approved college credits in an appropriate field.
2. Associate’s Degree in Electronics, Telecommunications, Computer Science or related area preferred.
3. One year experience in the setup, maintenance and operation of audio, visual and alternative delivery technology.
4. Coursework in Electronics Principles and Circuits is desirable.
5. or any equivalent experience in related fields to meet the above stated qualifications.
