Job summary

Caterpillar Inc. is seeking an Autonomy Validation Engineer to support the Caterpillar Autonomous program in Mossville, IL. The role focuses on system integration, validation, and troubleshooting of autonomy hardware and software in HIL environments.

The candidate will work with MATLAB/Simulink models, dSPACE BENCHES, wiring harnesses, CAN/J1939 and Ethernet networks, and sensor simulations (LiDAR, Radar, Camera, GPS, IMU). Strong collaboration and Agile/MBSE practices are expected.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in engineering or computer science; advanced degree preferred.
• Experience with design, development, validation of autonomous vehicle systems.
• Knowledge of iterative testing using agile methodologies; understanding of V-model for verification & validation.
• Experience with model-based simulation programs.
• Advanced data analysis and systems analysis for troubleshooting from test sites.
• Strong communication for technical status updates and reviews.

Responsibilities

• Develop and maintain MATLAB/Simulink real-time models for machine dynamics and HIL validation.
• Configure, operate, and troubleshoot dSPACE SCALEXIO benches with ConfigurationDesk and ControlDesk.
• Design, build, and validate wiring harnesses and interconnects for ECM integration.
• Integrate CAN/J1939 and Ethernet/TCP-IP communications across the architecture.
• Validate sensor simulations (LiDAR, Radar, Camera, GPS, IMU) with timing and calibration.
• Troubleshoot full-system issues and implement corrective actions with traceable evidence.
