Job summary

Caterpillar Inc. is seeking an Autonomy Validation Engineer to join the Autonomous program in Mossville, IL.

The role focuses on system integration and validation of onboard and offboard autonomy components in a Hardware-in-the-Loop environment. You will develop real-time models, validate interfaces and sensor simulations, and drive troubleshooting across hardware and software to enable reliable autonomous machine performance.

Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in engineering or computer science (or advanced degree).
Experience with design, development, validation, or product support for complex autonomous vehicle systems.
Knowledge of iterative testing using agile methodologies and V-model for verification & validation.
Experience with model-based simulation programs.

Responsibilities

Develop and maintain MATLAB/Simulink real-time models for machine dynamics and closed-loop validation.
Configure and troubleshoot dSPACE SCALEXIO benches including deployment and automated test execution.
Design, build, and validate wiring harnesses and electrical interfaces for integration.
Verify harness integrity and bench interfaces for reliable HIL operation across controllers and sensors.
Integrate and validate CAN/J1939 and Ethernet/TCP-IP communications within an integrated architecture.
Integrate sensor simulation (LiDAR, Radar, Camera, GPS, IMU) with correct timing and fault modes.
Troubleshoot issues across software defects, interface mismatches, timing conflicts, and hardware design shortcomings, with traceable evidence.
