Job summary

Merlin Labs in Boston, MA is seeking an experienced engineering leader to steer autonomous decision making and mission strategies for airborne systems. You will guide teams across research and development, drive architecture direction, and contribute hands-on software work when needed.

The role demands leadership of a multi-engineer group, deep expertise in Python/C++, and strong background in flight-tested autonomy. On-site work and a comprehensive benefits package are provided.

Qualifications

• Degree in Computer Science, Aerospace Engineering, Robotics Engineering, or related field.
• Experience developing software for airborne autonomous systems.
• Expert in mission management frameworks and autonomy algorithms.
• Experience leading a team of at least 4 engineers.
• Proficient in Python and C++.
• Familiar with simulation software for aircraft.
• Experience with proposal writing and technical roadmap development.

Responsibilities

• Drive autonomous decision making and motion planning for airborne systems.
• Define R&D projects to deliver mission autonomy capabilities.
• Identify staffing needs to deliver decision making capabilities.
• Align technical plans with Merlin's roadmap and objectives.
• Lead architecture design and perform trade-off analyses.
• Contribute hands-on software development when needed.
• Support simulation, integration, and flight testing.
• Collaborate across Merlin to solve challenging aviation problems.
