Job summary

Saronic Technologies is seeking a Forward Deployed Software Engineer to lead the integration, deployment, and improvement of autonomous systems in real-world maritime settings. You will work hands-on with software, networking, and autonomy to ensure reliable operation of autonomous service vessels.

You will debug and optimize autonomy algorithms, refine system performance using real-world data, and collaborate with end-users to tailor solutions to mission needs.

Qualifications

• Strong software engineering skills in C++, Rust, Python or similar languages.
• Background in robotics, autonomy, or embedded systems.
• Understanding of networking protocols and distributed systems (TCP/IP, UDP).
• Experience with sensors (cameras, radar, GPS, IMUs) in perception-driven autonomy.
• Willingness to travel up to 50% for field testing.
• Hands-on experience deploying robotic systems in real-world environments.

Responsibilities

• Develop and refine autonomy, networking, and mission software for real-world conditions.
• Deploy and test ASV software in the field, resolving autonomy, perception, and control issues.
• Analyze performance data from missions to drive software improvements.
• Integrate and validate new autonomy features with sensors and vessel hardware.
• Collaborate with operators to adapt systems to operational needs.
• Troubleshoot software, hardware, and networking during deployments.
• Work with autonomy engineers, hardware teams, and field ops to enhance capabilities.
• Document best practices, deployment procedures, and debugging workflows.
