Job summary

Blue Origin is hiring an HLS Autonomy Software Systems Engineer II for the Lunar Permanence program in the United States. The role focuses on developing state machine software and requirements for lunar lander subsystems, collaborating with FSW, GN&C, and controls engineers to ensure safe, reliable spaceflight.

Experience with MATLAB/Simulink and C/C++ or Python is required, along with cross-functional teamwork.

Qualifications

• Bachelor-level degree or equivalent experience in a relevant engineering field.
• 2–5 years professional software experience in a related domain.
• Experience with C/C++ or Python scripting.
• Experience developing software requirements and test cases.
• Hands-on with state machine definitions, controls theory, or MATLAB Simulink (Stateflow exposure preferred).
• Experience working on a cross-functional engineering team.

Responsibilities

• Independently develop state machine definitions (Simulink/Stateflow) for assigned subsystems under general supervision.
• Write and maintain software requirements, verification plans, and test cases for owned scope.
• Participate in fault management discussions and begin contributing to FMEA-driven requirements for assigned subsystems.
• Support HIL/SIL test setup and execution; begin authoring test procedures independently.
• Work with FSW, GN&C, or controls engineers on requirements flowdown for interfaces.
• Develop tool, test, and verification software as needed.
