Job summary

Caterpillar Inc. is seeking a Simulation Runtime Engineer to design, implement, and support core runtime components for simulation, digital twin, robotics, and autonomy workloads in Irving, TX.

You will work with senior engineers to deliver production-quality software, APIs, and developer tooling, while optimizing performance and ensuring robust integration with game engines and platform services.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree or higher in a relevant engineering or computing field.
• 2+ years of software engineering experience; academic/project work may count.
• Strong fundamentals in data structures and algorithms; OO design.
• Experience with Linux, Git, CI/CD, and debugging tools.
• Familiarity with simulation, game engines, robotics, or real‑time software.
• Exposure to Unreal Engine, Omniverse, Isaac Sim, Unity or Gazebo is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Develop, test, and maintain simulation runtime components, libraries, services, and integrations using C++ and Python.
• Implement runtime features for startup, lifecycle, execution, shutdown, and error handling.
• Integrate runtimes with Unreal Engine, NVIDIA Omniverse, Isaac Sim, and physics engines.
• Create APIs, SDKs, tooling, and configuration interfaces for developers.
• Support packaging, builds, deployments, and release workflows.
• Develop unit, integration, and performance tests; optimize CPU/GPU/memory usage.
• Troubleshoot defects and performance issues under guidance from senior engineers.
• Collaborate with scenario, rendering, and QA teams to validate end-to-end simulations.
