Job summary

Caterpillar Inc. in Irving, TX is seeking an Autonomy Systems Engineer to shape operator safety and autonomy solutions.

You’ll lead system-level requirements across software, hardware, sensing, and machine control, and work with cross‑functional teams to ensure safe, reliable operation in mining and construction environments. Responsibilities include defining architectures, managing traceability with Jama, and planning verification across lab and field settings.

Qualifications

• Experience building system requirements across electro‑mechanical, embedded, autonomy, or machine systems.
• Ability to translate safety scenarios into measurable system requirements and verification plans.
• Familiarity with verification, validation, and cross‑functional integration activities.

Responsibilities

• Define system architectures, operating concepts, use cases, interfaces, and allocations for software, hardware, sensing, and control.
• Develop, manage, and trace requirements using Jama or equivalent tools.
• Plan verification and validation for operator safety features across lab, field, and customer sites.
• Collaborate with software, hardware, controls, test, product, and field teams to deliver cohesive safety solutions.
• Analyze hazards and operational scenarios to drive clear decisions and risk-informed trade-offs.
• Troubleshoot issues spanning machine operation, sensing, software, and operator interactions.
• Create and maintain artifacts: requirements, architecture, interfaces, verification plans, and decisions records.
