Job summary

Ulysses is hiring for Tech Ops to keep our robots running in testing and field operations. You will prepare systems for deployment, run test campaigns, troubleshoot hardware and software in real time, and capture data to drive improvements for the next mission.

When not deploying, you’ll help keep HQ operations organized, support production, and prepare for upcoming missions with documentation and logistics planning.

Qualifications

• Hands-on experience with complex electromechanical systems
• Ability to troubleshoot across mechanical, electrical, firmware, networking, and software domains
• Comfortable working in and around water, boats and field environments
• Strong organizational skills for deployments with many moving parts
• Practical fabrication and repair skills (soldering, crimping, machining, cable assembly)
• Familiarity with Linux, command-line tools, and scripting (Python or Bash)
• Excellent written documentation habits
• Willingness to travel domestically and internationally (~15–40%)

Responsibilities

• Own field test operations: plan logistics, stage equipment, execute test procedures, and ensure deployments are safe and on schedule
• Keep robots mission-ready: assembly, integration, maintenance, documentation, pre-deployment checkouts
• Troubleshoot in the field across domains under tight timelines
• Run data collection and post-mission debriefs: ensure sensors log correctly and data is offloaded
• Support production at HQ: build, test, and ship vehicles with thorough documentation
• Maintain shop inventory, spares kits, tooling, and facilities
• Develop and improve operational processes: SOPs, checklists, go/no-go criteria
• Coordinate feedback across EE, Mech, and Software teams to drive priorities
• Manage field logistics: shipping, international deployments, site access, safety, vessel coordination
• Nice-to-haves: boating experience, subsea systems familiarity, I&T background, sensor/navigation experience
