Job summary

Wayve in Sunnyvale, CA is seeking an Autonomous Driving Forensics Engineer to join the Detectives team within Model Integration and Release. You will investigate issues across the full AV stack, identify root causes, test solutions, and provide actionable insights to improve overall performance.

You will work cross-functionally with hardware, software, model development, operations and safety teams, building dashboards and automating workflows to accelerate testing and fleet learning.

Qualifications

• 3+ years working with complex systems for robotics, autonomous vehicles, or comparable engineered systems.
• Excellent critical thinking and problem-solving skills to identify and resolve complex issues within robotics and AI systems.
• A systems-thinking mindset, comfortable investigating across the full stack, spanning hardware, software, and models.
• Prior experience designing real-world experiments to prove or disprove hypotheses.
• Great communication skills, able to explain complex technical problems to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.

Responsibilities

• Issue investigation & root cause analysis: Triage on-road data and deep-dives into recurring issues to pinpoint root causes across robot, model, or software.
• Data analysis & communication: Analyze data and communicate insights clearly, using dashboards or visualisations to make issues actionable.
• Cross-functional collaboration: Work with engineering, model development, operations and safety teams, including rides in vehicles, to drive resolution.
• Process & automation: Develop automated workflows and investigation playbooks to speed testing cycles.
• Simulation & testing: Use simulation and offline tools to reproduce and debug issues, minimising fleet resource use.
• Breadth of work: Provide investigative and systems engineering support across a broad range of problems as the technology and fleet grow.
• Incident response: Investigate on-road incidents to determine what happened and why, feeding lessons back to teams.
