Job summary

Port Authority of New York and New Jersey is seeking an Automotive Engineer for the Central Automotive Division in Jersey City, NJ. The role involves researching, designing, and procuring components for the Authority’s fleet, and collaborating with vendors and users to ensure successful purchases and pre-production inspections.

The engineer will analyze field failures, collect data, prepare detailed reports, and support continuous improvement in production time.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in automotive, mechanical, industrial, or similar engineering.
• At least 1 year of experience with fleet engineering, maintenance, or automotive design.
• Valid Class D (NJ) Driver’s License with a safe driving history.
• Proficiency using Microsoft Office.
• Familiarity with DOT, NY & NJ Motor Vehicle regulations including size and weight limits and FMVSS.
• Must pass background checks for access to Secure Areas.

Responsibilities

• Research, design, and prepare procurement documents for the Authority’s fleet of specialized automotive equipment and other units.
• Collaborate with end users and vendors during bidding, pre-production meetings, inspections, and vendor payments.
• Provide engineering support in analyzing failures and defects in vehicle design and manufacturing in the field.
• Data collection and analysis with preparation of detailed reports.
• Support continuous improvement to improve production time.
