Job summary

The Port Authority of New York and New Jersey seeks an Automotive Engineer for the Central Automotive Division to provide technical support under supervision. The position is primarily located at the Port Authority Technical Center in Jersey City, NJ, with field work and vendor plant travel as needed.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in automotive, mechanical, industrial, or similar engineering.
• At least 1 year of experience in fleet engineering, maintenance, or automotive design.
• Valid NJ Class D driver’s license with a safe driving history.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office.
• Familiarity with DOT and NY/NJ regulations including size/weight and FMVSS.

Responsibilities

• Research, design, and prepare procurement documents for the Authority’s fleet of specialized automotive equipment and other units.
• Collaborate with end users, supervisors, and vendors in acquiring new fleet vehicles; prepare bids (RFI/RFP); analyze bids and approve vendor payments.
• Provide engineering support analyzing failures in vehicle design and manufacturing in the field.
• Data collection and analysis; prepare detailed reports and support continuous improvement efforts.
