Job summary

Bonterra is seeking an automation-focused QA Engineer to join our Efforts to Outcomes (ETO) engineering team. You will build and maintain automated tests across UI, API, and integration layers for a large-scale enterprise platform used by nonprofits and public agencies.

You will drive automation from day one using Playwright and TypeScript, shape test strategy, and work closely with Software Engineers, Product Management, and Customer Success to ensure high-quality releases.

Qualifications

3+ years of experience in QA Engineering or SDET for web applications.
Strong Playwright experience with production-grade Playwright suite from day one.
Strong TypeScript programming for test automation and ability to read application code.
Experience testing REST APIs, including Swagger/OpenAPI endpoints.
Experience designing tests across UI, API, and integration layers.
Understanding of test automation architecture: isolation, reusable components, data management, parallelism.
Experience with Git and PR-based development workflows.
Experience with CI/CD and running tests in a pipeline.
Experience using SQL or relational databases to validate data.
Experience with TestRail, Jira, or equivalent tools.
Excellent communication and experience working in Agile teams.

Responsibilities

Build and maintain automated tests for new features, bugs, and regression scenarios.
Own and evolve the automated test suite as production-quality codebase with reusable components and reliable design.
Shape test strategy and architecture, selecting UI, API, or integration tests based on risk and speed.
Create API and integration tests to validate business logic, authentication, and data integrity.
Participate in design and code reviews with a testability lens to improve testability.
Investigate automated test failures to identify root causes across product, test, environment, or data.
Identify and fix flaky tests to improve reliability of the suite.
Close coverage gaps based on product risk and customer impact.
Validate features and releases through functional, regression, integration, and exploratory testing.
Use SQL and diagnostic tools to validate data when needed.
Collaborate with Engineers and Product Management to translate requirements into maintainable tests.
Integrate automated testing into development workflows for fast feedback.
Communicate quality risks and coverage clearly to stakeholders.
Continuously improve QA practices, tooling, and processes across the team.
