Position Overview
We are seeking an experienced Automation Engineer to design, develop, and support industrial control and automation systems that improve reliability, safety, and efficiency. The role focuses on PLC programming, controls integration, HMI development, and VFD configuration for manufacturing and process environments.
The Automation Engineer will work cross-functionally with operations, maintenance, and engineering to deliver scalable automation solutions and troubleshoot field issues.
Key Responsibilities
- Design, program, test, and commission PLC control systems (Siemens, Allen-Bradley, or similar) to meet project requirements.
- Develop and maintain HMI/SCADA interfaces to provide clear operational information and control capabilities.
- Configure, tune, and troubleshoot Variable Frequency Drives (VFDs) and motor control circuits for optimal performance and energy efficiency.
- Prepare functional specifications, wiring diagrams, control schematics, and bill of materials for automation projects.
- Provide technical support to maintenance and operations teams, diagnose field issues, and implement corrective actions and improvements.
- Participate in project planning, cost estimation, and scheduling; collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to ensure timely delivery.
- Implement control system best practices, coding standards, and version control for maintainability and safety.
- Develop documentation, training materials, and conduct operator/maintenance training sessions.
Qualifications
- Bachelors degree in Electrical Engineering, Control Systems Engineering, Mechatronics, or a related field, or equivalent experience.
- 3+ years of hands-on experience in industrial automation, PLC programming, and controls engineering.
- Proven experience with PLC programming platforms (e.g., Rockwell/Allen-Bradley, Siemens STEP 7/TIA Portal, Schneider).
- Strong HMI/SCADA development skills (e.g., FactoryTalk, Ignition, WinCC) and experience creating intuitive operator screens.
- Experience configuring and tuning VFDs, motor starters, and protective devices for process and industrial applications.
- Ability to read electrical schematics, P&IDs, and wiring diagrams; experience creating control schematics and BOMs.
- Excellent troubleshooting and problem-solving skills, with experience performing FAT/SAT and field commissioning.
- Effective communication skills, ability to work collaboratively with cross-functional teams, and willingness to travel to job sites as needed.
