Automation Controls Engineer
Job Summary
The Automation Controls Engineer is responsible for designing, implementing, and supporting automation solutions that improve efficiency, reliability, and performance within a manufacturing environment. This role focuses on PLC programming, electrical systems, and automated equipment supporting plant operations.
Key Responsibilities
- Identify opportunities to automate and optimize manufacturing processes
- Design, simulate, test, and implement automation equipment and systems
- Program and modify PLCs and automated components
- Develop and maintain clear technical documentation and schematics
- Troubleshoot automation systems and resolve equipment or process issues
- Support commissioning, upgrades, and continuous improvement initiatives
- Provide technical training to operations and maintenance teams as needed
- Support plant operations, including occasional after-hours remote support
Qualifications
- Engineering degree with 3–5 years of plant-based technical experience OR technical degree with 7 years of relevant manufacturing experience
- Strong experience with PLCs, electrical schematics, and low to medium voltage equipment
- Proven ability to design, validate, and troubleshoot automation systems
- Manufacturing or rolling industry experience preferred
- Strong problem-solving, communication, and documentation skills
- Willingness to learn, grow, and share technical knowledge
