Job summary

BorgWarner Arden Campus in Arden, NC seeks a Manufacturing, Automation, and Controls Technician to support thermal assembly lines and drive process improvements. You will work with engineering and production to implement safety, quality, and automation initiatives across multiple production areas.

Ideal candidates have an associate engineering degree, hands-on PLC/HMI experience, and a track record of resolving technical issues on the shop floor.

Qualifications

• Associate engineering degree from an accredited technical program is required.
• Courses or vocational training in electronics, controls, or engineering are a plus.
• 3+ years of experience on a manufacturing floor working with technical issues and material flow.
• Basic knowledge of PLC programming (Siemens, Allen-Bradley), HMI/SCADA development, and industrial communication protocols.
• Familiarity with electrical circuits, control panel design, and troubleshooting tools.
• Experience with vision systems (Cognex, Keyence), robotics (FANUC, ABB, KUKA), and mechatronic systems is preferred.
• Ability to read and interpret complex blueprints, electrical schematics, and engineering drawings.
• Proficiency with Windows and Office tools (Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint, Word, Teams).
• Strong problem-solving, teamwork, and communication skills.
• Willingness to learn and grow in automation and controls.

Responsibilities

• Serve as liaison between engineering and production to implement safety, quality, and process improvements.
• Coordinate with manufacturing managers, engineers, vendors, and customers for effective communication.
• Lead complex department projects including planning, scheduling, training, implementation, and documentation.
• Troubleshoot electrical and controls issues on assembly lines and automation equipment.
• Assist in design, development, and programming of PLCs, HMIs, and SCADA under engineering guidance.
• Support commissioning, debugging, and troubleshooting of automation equipment and control systems.
• Work with sensors, actuators, motors, and vision systems for process automation.
• Assist with installation and upgrades of production equipment with suppliers and contractors.
• Maintain and update electrical schematics, control panel layouts, and wiring diagrams using CAD.
• Ensure compliance with safety standards, industry regulations, and company policies.
• Document system configurations, troubleshooting guides, and training materials.
• Provide technical support for equipment maintenance and modifications.
• Participate in continuous improvement initiatives and learn new automation technologies.
• Assist with preventative maintenance and machine repairs as needed.
• Support pre-production and PPAP builds, procurement, and installation of lines and equipment.
• Recommend and implement improvements to manufacturing processes and tooling.
• Inspect machined parts using indicators, micrometers, calipers, and related devices for accuracy.
• Adhere to health, safety, and environmental policies and procedures.
