Job description

Job Description

The Controls Technician reports to the Head of Automation. Responsibilities include special projects, controls troubleshooting, and electrical maintenance duties when not engaged with other tasks. This position works closely with various departments to ensure the electrical and mechanical infrastructure of the plant is maintained and optimized to ensure efficient processing and maximum uptime.

  1. PLC maintenance and troubleshooting of the systems within our facility.
  2. Troubleshoot programs to identify problems and make corrections.
  3. Create and read logic flow diagrams for program design and programming.
  4. Provide technical support in developing and improving processes.
  5. Configure, install, and repair automation/control devices.
  6. Observe functioning of installed equipment to detect hazards, problems, and the need for service, repair, and/or replacement of electrical, electronic, and mechanical components.
  7. Maintain and repair electrical systems across the organization.
  8. Troubleshoot electrical, mechanical, production, and quality issues.
  9. Read and understand mechanical plans and wiring diagrams.
  10. Work according to project timelines and required processes.
  11. Assist activities of outside contractors working on assigned line(s).
  12. Work independently under limited supervision.
  13. Review controls documentation and installation plans.
  14. Advise Electrical Department leadership of electrical/mechanical problems and suggest solutions.
  15. Complete special projects as directed.
  16. Participate in training and development opportunities to increase knowledge of relevant systems.
  17. Follow safety and work procedures.

ADDITIONAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Other duties as assigned.

POSITION REQUIREMENTS

Professional Background / Education

  • Completed degree or certificate program in a relevant field or equivalent demonstrable knowledge and work experience required.
  • Minimum of 3 years’ experience working with industrial electrical systems.
  • PLC education/experience in servicing programmable logic systems, preferably with Siemens experience.

Required Skills / Knowledge

  • Hands-on work attitude, precise and detail-oriented work style; highly organized with good communication skills.
  • Strong communication skills, both verbally and written. Able to interact effectively at any level of the organization.
  • Behave honestly and ethically at all times.
  • Must be a team player.
  • Highly computer literate for maintaining machine control systems software and upgrades.
  • Proficiency with automation hardware and software.
  • Knowledge of motion control systems.

Other Requirements

  • Willingness to work a rotating schedule that includes night shift rotations.
