Automation and Controls Technician (Siemens)

- Maintains a safe and secure work environment, including correcting unsafe acts/conditions, facilitating safety meetings, performing safety inspections, and investigating accidents, as required.
- Evaluate and troubleshoot facility and manufacturing control systems consisting of PLCs, VFD’s, computer controls, HMI interfaces, as well as controls and process instrumentation.
- Troubleshoot or modify existing PLC programs and make system hardware recommendations to resolve operation problems, improve processes, to support factory initiatives and continuous improvement.
- Design control systems and prepare drawings, P&IDs, specifications, and scopes of work.
- Document and maintain revisions to existing automated systems and maintain appropriate PLC, and computer software/hardware information.
- Design and implement improvements to increase efficiency, reduce costs, and improve reliability of existing plant and manufacturing control systems and equipment.
- Support and assist Maintenance personnel in troubleshooting, testing, modifying, and installing electrical equipment and control systems.
- Support maintenance department with implementation of SAP workorders and maintenance hour tracking and adjustment.
- Advanced understanding of networks and ability to troubleshoot common outages and system communication issues.
- Repairs critical electrical equipment and performs preventive and predictive maintenance and completes projects such as mechanical and electrical hardware and software upgrades.
- Repairs and replaces control devices such as switches, proximity sensors, push buttons, contactors, motor starts, thermocouples, etc. as needed.
- Reads electrical drawings for conveyors, machines, and building.
- Repairs, maintains, and troubleshoots electrical breakdowns associated with high-speed packaging and processing machinery to ensure continuous production operations.
- Performs efficient troubleshooting and repair to maximize efficiencies and limit downtime.
- Maintains and repairs electrical breakdowns in operation, which includes packaging equipment, motors, conveyors, ovens, VFD’s, PLC’s, wrappers, palletizers, robotics, blending operations, etc.
- Repairs and replaces defective components in motors, generators, controllers, switchboards, conductors, switches and varied electrical fixtures.
- Maintains calibrating of instrumentation and supporting records.
- Performs defensive repair and preservation of electronic and electrical systems, equipment, and devices.
- Tests solid-state circuitry to determine defective components along with defective parts replacement.
- Effectively responds to directions during emergencies by understanding emergency procedures, equipment, and systems as necessary; Implements contingency plan to the level required.
- Complies with environmental regulations when using, dispensing, or handling hazardous and non-hazardous materials and waste.
- Must be willing to have hands-on involvement with industrial equipment.
- Other duties as assigned by managers or leads.
WHO ARE WE LOOKING FOR TO JOIN OUR FAMILY?
- 5+ years experience in manufacturing environment.
- 5+ years related experience as an Automation and Controls Technician.
- Experience with industrial equipment including PLCs, computers, computer networks and high-speed packaging and filling equipment.
- Experience in a Food and Beverage manufacturing environment.
- Knowledge and skill in programming PLC’s using Ladder Logic, Function Block, Structured Text, and Statement logic.
- Knowledge of Variable Frequency Drives (VFDs)
- Knowledge of communication protocols [Fieldbus, Modbus, Profibus, ControlNet, DeviceNet, HART, Ethernet TCP/IP, Fiber and OPC]
- Knowledge of power distribution (single phase, three phase, low Voltage, medium voltage, high Voltage)
- Knowledgeable in instrumentation calibration of pressure, temperature, flow, level etc.
- Advanced computer skills and proficiency in MS Office and other windows-based programs
- Ability to read electrical blueprints and schematics preferred.
- Ability to handle sensitive and proprietary information in a confidential manner.
- Associate’s degree in automation technology, robotics, or a related discipline preferred.

- While performing the duties of this position, the employee is frequently required to: talk, hear, reach with hands and arms, grasp, pick, lift, stand, walk, and perform repetitive motions. The employee must frequently lift and /or move 50 pounds. The employee is required to have visual acuity to perform an activity such as operate production machines where the seeing job is at or within arm’s reach
